Washroom Renovation

The washroom is one area which has been consistently overlooked in renovation projects. Most of the costs are spent in the renovation of the main spaces, and little is left for the washroom.

Have you ever wondered if washrooms are renovated as well as the main spaces, would it lift the general wellbeing of your customers and employees?

Let’s talk about employees. Have there been situations when employees leave on the dot and overtime are seldom seen? Not that we expect overtime from employees, no! But the quick departure of the day may be the very reason why some employees rush back so as to comfortably use their own washroom. If the washrooms are dirty and not well-maintained, it is easy to understand that employees would not consider staying late to work given the state of the washroom. How about shower facilities, so your employees could go for a run, have dinner, and come back to shower before giving his/her work a few final touches before he leaves for the day? The employee is happy as he/she does not have to rush for dinner and shower, but most can be done in the office and the rest of the time at home is just pure relaxation!

For commercial outlets such as restaurants, salons and cafes, the perception of your brand sometimes lies in the standard of your washroom. It is not to say that exorbitant amount should be spent on washroom alone, but this can be a factor influencing if your customers (for example, a gym member) will patronise the business again. It can be simple or sophisticated, but what is important is that the washroom must be very well-maintained. If simplicity is chosen, then make sure that the washroom can be easily cleaned and not stained. Also, overlaying of tiles and exposed plumbing does not require hacking or plumbing works, and are more affordable If sophistication is key, then you could consider glass, stone and man-made materials such as quartz in which large pieces are required; and gives a sleeker look, but is costlier.

To minimise constant drying of washrooms by the service people, ensure the right distance between tap spout and sink. This would reduce splashing and easier to maintain.

One most important element in the washroom is about preventing leaking. Ensure proper waterproofing, re-tiling and re-grouting. It is advisable to invest in quality materials so the tiles in the washroom can last for a long time.
