Consideration of the Use of Lighting
One of the foremost considerations in lighting comes from the layout of the space. Is the space north facing, where heavy window treatments (such as blinds, solar films) are not required? Is the space facing west where screens could be used to diffuse the light? Does the light get into the premises as far as possible, or are there specific uses of light for certain activities? Mirrors could also be considered to reflect the light within the space.
The lack of sufficient light makes us vulnerable to lethargy. However, this is also dependant on the business activity. If the business is mainly a spa, hotel, lounge, an exquisite dining restaurant or even the entrance lobby, lighting could be reduced to adapt focus lightings for specific mood creation.
If there are available artworks or interesting objects which you would have, it is easy to enhance its beauty and have visitors focus on it upon entering using focus lightings (“Whoa” factor).
Lighting is not a place to be cutting cost in, as it is the jewellery in the room. Without proper lighting, the other elements such as objects (like art pieces), wallpapers and decorations cannot be highlighted or accentuated.
