Salon & Spa Renovation
At CommercialRenoSG, we can provide interior design consultations for salon renovations. However, if you have a rough concept in mind that you cannot exactly articulate, fret not! We will still guide you along the way to achieve your desired concept, but take note that these are the key areas to look out for when brainstorming your own salon design:
- Clean environment
All customers are the same. They know that the space they occupy now was a space some other customers occupied a while ago. It is like a hotel room. Doesn’t matter that this space is “used”, but as long as it is being properly cleaned up, most customers are fine, except for a few who would want their space to be especially spick and span. This is the time when the ease of cleaning up after a customer is quick and easy. For example, in a hair salon there will be hair on the floor, and cleaning up after a customer must be easy – which means the flooring must be seamless and do not have too many obstacles for cleaning to be done. This also has an impact on tiles selection. An off-white set of tiles means that the cleaning must be more thorough since dirt can be easily spotted. Tiles which are greyish with patterns or darker in colour would give your employees some space to breathe instead of being 100% thorough in cleaning every half hour. - Waiting area vs Business area
Do you have lots of walk-in customers, or do you persistently have clients which leave later than usual, resulting in more customers in the waiting area? This is precious real estate, and giving more to waiting area means having less for your business. You would know more than us in the average number of customers at waiting area vis-à-vis the numbers in the business area at any given time. - Functionality and sophistication
Branding is important. Are you positioning yourself as high-end or at the other end of the spectrum where you deal more with volumes? Depending on this, functionality is always required. A more sophisticated concept would go along with high-end branding and include items such as chandeliers, feature walls, elaborate lighting, water feature or even a pantry/rest area for customers.

Salon and Spa Design Concepts
As consumers have become more exposed to the fact that good designs have the potential to divert their current experience of the world, more are demanding that the places they visit reflect their ideal of what beauty is. The diminishing disparity between men and women in the workforce accelerated the purchasing power of women, and so the success of the salons will depend not only on the service but the creative muscles that businesses can come up with the gain traction with customers.
Lights, whether natural or artificial, is able to secure calmness in spaces. Candles could be used to project a cavelike atmosphere. Combining the harmonious elements of nature is usually a good approach as this takes customers to a “different land” in experiencing your services. These are usually matched with the design concepts in mind.
Colour concepts such as hypnotic washes of green and blue give a sense of vastness and serenity. Or do you prefer pristine white seating with a clean, high-gloss white epoxy floor, with the furnishing being all white, mimicking the classic beauty of 1930s cinema seatings? How about spas with bath spaces which models after ancient Turkish baths?
